There is a small food market near my appartment, in On Nut. I often go there to buy some snack or dish to have dinner instead of cooking.
One day, I found one store sell somethings that I don't know, because I can not read the name in Thai. After asking, I know this is a "soya store", they sell "fresh soya milk" and "fresh tofu with ginger sugar" which are homemade.

This is "tofu with ginger and sugar", it's very hot and suitable for early morning, late night or rainy day which the weather seems cold. In Vietnam, we eat "tofu" with some slides of ginger and "bola", a kind of jelly as image below.

In Thai, they have also "bola" but for me, it seems not better than which in Vietnam and they serve with "soya milk" rather than "tofu"

Soya in Thai I think it's better, we have small youtiao and jelly :D They cost only 14baht for both of them, quite cheap

Yesterday, after work, I went to the Downtown of Bangkok, on Ratchapraprop road. I came home late at 11:00 pm, dinner at 12:00 pm, so I could not write new blog soon.
In fact, I went to Season Siam Hotel to take japanese book from my friend who help me to ship these book from Vietnam. After that I returned to home.
On the road Phetchaburi, I found a new night market, called "Talad Neon Night Market", it's located near Pratunam, you can check at the map below

This market is not big as Rod Fai train night market, in the last night, there are not too many neon lights in the market as I see on the Internet. I think it would be better if I go in Saturday or Sunday, might be.

Yesterday, dinner, I ate Papaya Thai salad again, but it was the different type of salad. The first time I tried was "sweet and sour salad", it was good so I intended to buy it again, at local food store on On Nut alley, next to my apartment.

This a "great woman" I told at the last blog about "Green papaya salad", she is a food vendor, its store opens from 6:00 pm to late.

She sells some common Thai dishes for dinner, made from pork loin, ground pork, egg and some vegetable salads.
I know two kinds of dishes she sells except "papaya salad" after watching her cook yesterday, one is "khao moo chop" fried ground pork with rice, the other may be "khao moo", boiled pork fried with fish sauce. Yesterday, I just would like to try again "papaya salad" so I only ordered it. But this was not the same dish that I ate in the first time, she put the new ingredient : black crab and mix together with salad. It was more salty than the first dish, I didn't like too much. However, I found on the Internet that it's original version of Thai papaya salad which names "Som Tam Bu", the first time I ate is customized, for me I prefer the first one than this.

Last weekend, I went to Chinatown at Yaowarat road. That was a second time that I went there. There are a lot of Thai and Chinese dishes. Kuay Jab Nam Sai is one of Thai dish which is popular and famous here.
Kuay Jab Nam Sai, for me, it looks like "Teochew noodles" with the flat noodles and viscous broth, eatting with crispy pork or pork organs. This Kuay Jab in Thai doesn't have viscous broth, and taste seems slightly different, less chinese herbs, more green pepper, so it's hot and spicy, very suitable to eat in cold weather.
The last time I tried Kuay Jab Nam Sai in small restaurant at China Town, but I found that it had a bigger one which long queue of people was standing to wait, so I decided to go to that restaurant.

I don't know exactly the name of this restaurant, but it's located in the middle of China Town, in the left side coming from Hua Lamphong station.

A long wait queue here

But when you go alone, you might be have a little priority to go first, because the staff will always optimize customers by filling you up to single seat. This was my "Kuay Jab Nam Sai", I ordered only "pork organs" for that time.

The noodles of this has small different as I mentioned above, flat, rolled and soft noodles, the spicy broth and it's very hot. You can order "crispy pork" to mix or just only one topping, there is also boiled egg. The price is 50 baht for small, 100 baht for big bowl and 10 bath for one egg. 10 baht ~ 35円

These days are holiday in Thai, I stay at home but still learn somethings new :D Never stop learning ^^
Yesterday, I decided to buy food from outdoor vendor, not supermarket or big store. I can know some simple Thai words, slightly difficult to buy something with local people who does not speak English. I used only gestures and point to point ^_^ By the way, now I can demand something, ask its name and know how much is it in Thai :D
Everyday when I back to home, I meet the "great woman" who takes food vendor as her business, at the corner of the route. I always smile and don't know what she sell. Okay, if I want to know, just try to buy one day. And this "one day" is yesterday, I nodned my head and ask "Som Tam please", I guessed that because there is a mortar which is a tool to make "Som Tom" in a stall.
"Som Tam" is a kind of Thai salad, very popular in Thai, every food stall will sell this one beside of rice and crispy pork. I heard alots about it but have never tried, so yesterday is the first time.

The principal ingredients are papaya, garlic, dried shrimp, fish sauce and .... as you know, it's "chilli". The food owner asked me "spicy ?", of courses I said "yes", but in fact it's quite spicy and hot, please adjust depend on your spicy capacity. Sour and spicy are two main tastes that I felt strongly, despite of spicy but it's great, signature dish must try in Thai.

With 60 baht, what can we do in Thai?
For me, as a foreigner, I can have a dinner dish outside with 60 baht, or I can try two or three street food dishes around Bangkok.
Supposed that I stay here as local, go to supermarket and buy food to cook, so I could have a full set for two people withing 60 baht, surely it's just common dishes.
But can I buy some household with only 60 baht?
Yes, it's possible, I needed some household to cook in Thai, but when going to the supermarket, I realize the tool price are quite high because they are sold in group or a big one, I just want a small and only one so little hard to buy. However, in Tesco Lotus, they have a stall of "60 baht" where all tools are sold at 60 baht, same price for all. I found stir-fried tool, can opener and also some colorful tools like this one

It's a cake measuring tool, I have a set at home for baking, yaaa I know a little of baking. This tool is very cute. However, I don't intend to buy it now due to no way to make a cake in here but I will buy it soon as a gift for my friend who teaches me how to make a cake ^^

"Banh mi vietnam" , I really miss it. So hard to find true "banh mi" in Thai. Milk, cheese, bread or jambon are quite expensive in here because no many people prefer them or might be import tax for them are so high, I think.

When I read some blog or feeds about vietnamese food: "bun bo", "pho", "com tam"... many dishes that I love, especially "banh mi" in my mind.
"Banh mi" (バインミー) is common and special dish in Vietnam, its ingredients are simple : pate, some herb and whatever meat you would like to eat, put all of them inside bread and enjoy. Simple but not easy to make, one good "banh mi" needs crispy bread, good pate, salt and greasy mayonnaise, thin enough sliced ham, all of those makes a great "banh mi".

From a big and old vendor as "Hoa Ma" to small stall that you can find wherever in Vietnam, "banh mi" has unique recette, different specificities. it's hard to compare which it's more delicious, even Vietnamese people. Just try and enjoy the difference.
p/s : I will find to make "banh mi" soon in Thai

I returned home late yesterday, 10:30 pm, dinner at 1:00 am, tried to realize some "stuff idea" and call to my friend in France, he's my predecessor in the university, who drive me step into machine learning. Gotta some necessities then went to bed at 4:00 am.... Too tired to prepare breakfast at home, thus I bought some Thai pork grilled satay and sticky rice for morning.

Pork satay is quite popular, not only in the morning but also as snack, fast food after work or late night. It's easy to find one local food stall sell it around Bangkok. The price is from 6 to 10 baht per stick. There are also chicken and pork, but it seems pork is preferable.

Sweet from honey, the first taste that I feel, so yummy for sure ^^. Grilled meat is combined between lean meat and grease so that it's soft and greasy. Dont worry about grease if you have to be in health regime, not so much grease, it's enough to make us wanna try alots.

I see Thai people eat satay with sticky rice in the morning, so I take one piece too :D It assures for me to be full enough until lunch.

Last weekend, I went to Srinakarin train night market or alternative name is "Rot Fai". It's located behind Seacon Square.

This is a panorama picture I took at the back of the market where the bistro and restaurant chains are located. This market opens in the weekend, Thursday to Sunday, from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am.

Here is a map of Srinakarin night market. You can take Sukhumvit Sky bus line (BTS) to On Nut or Udom Suk station, then take taxi or motor taxi to "Rot Fai" or "Srinakarin" night market.

In the weekend, there are a lot of Thai people and foreign tourists go here to shopping, relax and dinner. You can see a long queue of car waiting for parking here. Ah, if you have a car, you can drive, there is a huge parking lot here and the fee is 40 baht. But it has better not to drive due to traffic jam in Thai and waste time for parking.

In the market, there are not only souvenirs stall for shopping, but also food stall chain, restaurant and bar for dinner. Some people take a glass of beer and enjoy the meal.
I ride my bicycle one round around the market, then I decided to stop at this restaurant

Sorry, I forgot to ask the name of this restaurant, but it's at the back of market, you just go straight and turn left to the parking.
Here is a menu, there are some dishes in "Must try" list so I chose "Leng small".

It's braised big pork bone Thai tom yum, I think it's quite popular because it was ordered on almost of the tables around me.

I think it's too spicy for normal people, I'm very difficult to eat all of this, but it seems good, especially eatting it in the rainy day. In Vietnam, we often eat this when drinking, but for the safe and health, Thai government has policy to restrain beer consummation, so it's not easy to buy or drink. About the dish, despite of the spicy, but I think we should try it once time.
