[タイ料理] Is it "Pho" in Vietnam?
I have just had dinner at Terminal 21. Today I found one kind of dishes very delicious and "familliar" with me.
It's name in Thai is "Kuay Tiew Nua Toon", wide noodles with thick soup and mixed beef. Why I say that it looks like "Pho"? There are two points I focused to compare them.
Firstly, it's about ingredients and topping served with. This dish includes "sen yai noodles" which means wide and flat kind of Thai noodles. For topping, it contains braised beef, beef ball and beef tripe. This "Kuay Tiew" is served also with bean sprouts and herbes. Thai food has a lot of "Kuay Tiew" or noodles soup like Vietnam, but I think that there is only this soup is eatten bean sprouts and herbes together. Due to these points, I nearly thought that it's same as "Pho" in Vietnam.
However, when checking carefully and tasting its broth. I found one different here, broth is dark and might be stronger and salty than "Pho" in Vietnam. I supposed that its broth is cooked directly with five-spice powder (五香粉 in chinese) so that is a reason why the broth is dark and thick. By the way, it looks like "Pho" in the Southern of Vietnam, mixed with Stewed beef soup. Stronger, Sweeter than northern "Pho" but they are all delicious. I have a good dinner with "Kuay Tiew Nua Toon", I feel that this one might be the best "Kuay Tiew" in Thai that I've ever tried, the second is "Kuay Tiew Nam Sai".
